Here is exactly what we ask a plumber for before they join the Vofix network, what we keep a record of, and — just as importantly — what we do not check on your behalf. No badges, no vague reassurances.
These are the questions everyone answers, and the answers are recorded against their entry in our network. A plumber who will not answer them does not receive enquiries from us.
We take the plumber’s name, telephone number and email address, and we keep a record of them. We need to be able to reach the person we are passing an enquiry to, and you need to know who is coming.
We record the business or trading name the plumber works under, whether they are a sole trader or a limited company, and the areas they cover. This is what tells you who you are actually contracting with, because it is the plumber’s business you deal with rather than Vofix.
We ask what sort of plumbing work the plumber does day to day, how long they have been doing it and anything they specialise in or deliberately avoid. It is how we decide which enquiries to send them, and it is why a heating enquiry does not go to someone who only fits bathrooms.
Before we pass any work on, the plumber agrees to how we expect customers to be treated: contact the customer promptly, confirm the price and the scope before starting, be clear about call-out charges, and tell us if they cannot take a job on rather than leaving it in silence.
We record what customers tell us afterwards, good and bad. Where a concern is raised we look into it, and a plumber can be removed from the network over it. This is an ongoing check rather than a one-off at sign-up.
These depend on the work. They are not required of every plumber, because not every plumber does every kind of job — so treat them as things to confirm for your particular job rather than as blanket assurances.
Where a plumber tells us they hold public liability insurance we record that, including the insurer and the level of cover they have given us. We are not able to verify or monitor a policy on your behalf, so ask to see the certificate before work begins — particularly for anything substantial.
Boiler repairs and any work involving gas must only be completed by an appropriately Gas Safe-registered engineer. For gas enquiries we record the registration number given to us and point the job at someone who holds it. You can and should check any registration yourself on the Gas Safe Register, and ask to see the engineer’s card with the categories they are registered for.
Some work needs a particular competence — unvented hot water cylinders are the common one, and electrical work needs an electrician rather than a plumber. Where a job calls for it, we ask the plumber to confirm they hold what is required and to show you the evidence.
Customers should confirm the final scope, price and any job-specific qualifications directly with the plumber before work begins.
Vofix is a matching service that connects customers with independent local plumbers. The plumber will confirm availability, pricing and the scope of work directly with you before work begins.
Availability varies by area and by day, so attendance is always subject to plumber availability. Vofix does not set or control the prices plumbers charge.
Tell us about the job and we’ll look for an available plumber in the Vofix network covering your area. Free to use, with no obligation to book.
