Frequently AskedQuestions

Straight answers about how Vofix works, what things cost, who quotes you and who is responsible for the work. If your question is not here, ring us or email us and ask.

How Vofix works

What we do, what we do not do, and who you end up dealing with.

What exactly does Vofix do?

Vofix is a matching service that connects customers with independent local plumbers. You send us your postcode, a description of the job and a phone number; we look through the local plumbers in the Vofix network for someone who covers your area and takes on that kind of work, and we put you in touch. The plumber will confirm availability, pricing and the scope of work directly with you before work begins.

Is Vofix the company that does the plumbing?

No. We do not carry out plumbing work, and we do not employ the plumbers. Every plumber in the network is an independent business working in their own name, and your agreement for the work is with them rather than with Vofix.

How we check plumbers →

Do I pay Vofix anything?

No. Submitting an enquiry and being matched with a local plumber is free to you. You pay the plumber for the work, on terms you agree with them.

Who is responsible for actually completing the work?

The plumber. They are responsible for the work they carry out, for any guarantee they offer on it and for putting right anything that goes wrong. If something does go wrong, raise it with the plumber first — but tell us as well, because we record concerns and act on them.

Am I obliged to book the plumber you find?

Not at all. You can hear from the plumber, ask whatever you like, get the price and decide against it. There is no fee and no obligation either way.

What if my plans change after I have sent an enquiry?

Just tell us, and tell the plumber if you have already spoken to them. Call or message us on the number at the top of the page and we will close the enquiry off. Cancelling an appointment the plumber has already set aside time for is worth a phone call rather than a silence — and if the plumber has already attended, their own cancellation or call-out terms apply.

Prices, quotes and payment

Who gives you the price, what a call-out fee covers and who buys the parts.

Who provides the quotation?

The plumber, always. Vofix does not quote for work and does not set or control prices. Anything we publish about cost is general guidance to help you judge a quote, not an offer.

See the price guide →

What is a plumber’s call-out fee?

It is the charge for attending. Some plumbers include the first half-hour or hour of labour in it and some do not, so ask whether labour is included before agreeing to the visit. Out-of-hours attendance is normally charged at a higher rate.

Typical call-out and hourly figures →

Can I decline a quotation?

Yes. You are free to turn down any price you are quoted, for any reason. If the figure is not what you expected, say so — and if you would like us to look for someone else, tell us.

Does the plumber supply the materials?

Usually, and most carry common parts on the van. Some jobs work better with you supplying a specific item — a particular tap, a specific radiator — and some plumbers prefer to supply everything so they can stand behind it. Agree it before work starts, because it changes both the price and who is responsible for a faulty part.

How do I pay, and when?

That is between you and the plumber. Ask at the point of quoting what they accept and whether payment is due on completion or invoiced. Vofix never takes payment for plumbing work.

Jobs, timing and emergencies

Small repairs, urgent problems and how quickly things realistically happen.

Will a plumber take on a small job?

Small repairs are among the most common enquiries we get, and there is no minimum job size. A single dripping tap or a running toilet is worth sending in — whether someone is available depends on the area and the day rather than the size of the job.

Plumber for small jobs →

How quickly will I hear back?

We will text you within 15 minutes of your enquiry arriving, and we handle out of hours jobs too, so evenings and weekends are worth sending in. How long it then takes to find a plumber who can attend depends on where you are, how urgent the job is and who is free — we would rather tell you plainly that it is taking a while than leave you waiting on us.

Can you get someone out in an emergency?

We will try, and we prioritise genuine emergencies. Out of hours jobs are handled, so send it in whatever the time, but attendance is always subject to plumber availability and we cannot guarantee immediate or 24-hour cover. Stop the water at the stopcock first — that is the single most useful thing you can do before anyone arrives.

Emergency plumbing advice →

Is a loss of heating or hot water an emergency?

On its own, usually not — it is an urgent repair, and it is normally cheaper and easier to book for the next working day than to have attended out of hours. It is treated differently where there is a vulnerable person in the property or where the fault is also causing damage.

Do you cover my area?

We cover Nottingham, Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Worksop and Newark-on-Trent, along with the villages and estates around them. If you are on the edge of one of those, send your postcode anyway and we will tell you either way.

Plumbers, checks and qualifications

What we ask plumbers for, and what you should confirm yourself.

How are the plumbers checked?

Before a plumber joins the network we record their identity and contact details, their trading details, the work they do and the areas they cover, and they agree to how we expect customers to be treated. We also record customer feedback and look into any concerns raised. We are careful not to call this vetting, because we do not carry out formal verification on your behalf.

What we check, in detail →

Are the plumbers insured?

Where a plumber has told us they hold public liability insurance, we record it. We cannot confirm that a policy is still in force on the day of your job, so ask to see the certificate before work begins — especially for anything substantial.

When is Gas Safe registration required?

Boiler repairs and any work involving gas must only be completed by an appropriately Gas Safe-registered engineer. Radiators, water pipes, taps and toilets are ordinary plumbing work. Ask to see the engineer’s Gas Safe card and check the categories they are registered for.

Heating work and Gas Safe →

What should I confirm with the plumber myself?

Customers should confirm the final scope, price and any job-specific qualifications directly with the plumber before work begins. In practice that means: what exactly is being done, what it will cost including parts, whether the call-out includes labour, and — for gas or specialist work — the relevant registration.

What happens if I am unhappy with the work?

Raise it with the plumber first, since the work and any guarantee are theirs. Then tell us. We record concerns against the plumber, we look into them, and a plumber can be removed from the network as a result.
