What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. Related technologies do much the same job: local storage keeps a value in your browser but, unlike a cookie, never sends it to a server; a tracking pixel or script reports an action back to a third party such as Google.
Some of this is unavoidable if a website is to work at all. The rest is optional, and UK law says it needs your consent before it loads. We have built the banner so that nothing optional runs beforehand.
Strictly necessary technology
These run whatever you choose, because the site cannot work properly without them. They are not used to track you and they do not build a profile of you.
| Name | Type | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| vofix.cookie-consent | Local storage, set by this website | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected non-essential cookies, so you are not asked again on every page. Because it is local storage rather than a cookie, it is never sent to our server. | Until you clear your browser storage |
| nf_ab | Cookie, set by Netlify (our host) | Keeps a visitor on a consistent version of the site when split testing is in use. Split testing is not currently switched on for this site, so you would not normally see this cookie. | Up to 1 year, when in use |
The enquiry form does not need a cookie to work. Whatever you choose on the banner, the form, the click-to-call links and the WhatsApp button all keep working normally.
Advertising and conversion measurement — optional
Vofix advertises on Google Search. To know which adverts actually lead to plumbing enquiries rather than just clicks, we use the Google Ads tag. It only loads after you press Accept. If you press Reject, or ignore the banner, the Google script is never added to the page and none of the cookies below are set.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Google, on the vofix.co.uk domain | Links an advert click to a later enquiry so a conversion can be counted | 90 days |
| _gcl_aw, _gcl_dc, _gac_* | Google, on the vofix.co.uk domain | Stores the advert click identifier used for Google Ads conversion measurement | 90 days |
| IDE, NID and similar | Google, on Google’s own domains | Advertising and personalisation cookies Google may set in your browser once its tag is loaded | Up to 13 months for NID and up to 24 months for IDE, as set by Google |
We also use Google Consent Mode, so the Google tag is told your choice directly. Reject means Google is instructed not to use advertising or analytics storage at all.
Analytics
There is no Google Analytics property on this website at the moment, so no analytics cookies are set. We would rather say that plainly than list cookies that are not there. If Google Analytics is added later it will be listed in this table, it will be treated as optional, and it will only load for visitors who have accepted.
Third-party services on this site
- WhatsApp — the WhatsApp button is an ordinary link to wa.me. Nothing from WhatsApp loads while you are on this site, but once the link opens WhatsApp or its website, WhatsApp and Meta set their own cookies under their own policies.
- Google Ads — described above, and only after you accept.
- Netlify — hosts the site and processes enquiry-form submissions. It may keep short-term server logs, which include your IP address, for security and reliability.
- There are no embedded maps, videos, chat widgets, social media feeds or advertising networks on this site, so nothing of that kind is loading in the background.
Change or withdraw your choice
You can change your mind whenever you like, and it takes effect immediately. Use the control below, or the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer of every page.
Your cookie choices
Checking your current choice…
Your choice is stored on this device only. Clearing your browser storage will reset it and the banner will appear again.
If you switch from Accept to Reject we also delete the Google cookies we can reach from this site. Cookies Google set on its own domains are outside our reach, so to clear those use your browser’s cookie settings or Google’s own ad settings.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear local storage — look under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking everything will clear the record of your cookie choice, so the banner will ask you again on your next visit. It will not stop the enquiry form working.
Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a cookie, or add a new third-party service, we will update this list. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with the information we collect and what your rights are.
